Briatore admits Mercedes switch was his call

Jan.26 Flavio Briatore has admitted he personally drove Alpine's decision to abandon its Renault works engine program in favour of Mercedes power for 2026 – a stance that contrasts with his public denials last season. Speaking to Sky Italia at the launch of Alpine's A526 in Barcelona, Briatore was unequivocal when asked about his role in the change. 'How much of my influence was involved in the decision to switch from Renault to Mercedes engines? One hundred percent,' Briatore said. 'I can't blame anyone – in fact, I have to say I received great support from Luca de Meo. He understood that I was right. 'I would never have returned to Formula 1 if I hadn't had the opportunity...
