Alonso: New contract a long-term deal

The announcement may have stated that Fernando Alonso will 'contest the 2018 championship' with McLaren, however, the Spaniard says his new contract is a 'long-term' deal. McLaren announced on Thursday that Alonso had re-signed for next season putting an end to speculation about the Spaniard's future. But while the team confirmed that he would race alongside Stoffel Vandoorne in 2018, there was no mention of the duration of the contract.
