Hungary FP1: Ricciardo sets the early pace
Red Bull were relishing the prospect of racing at Hungaroring, a track expected to play to the strengths of their car, and indeed their drivers delivered with Daniel Ricciardo topping the timing screens at the end of the first free practice of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Typically the track was very green and as a result, many drivers going wide as they explored the edge of traction early on in proceedings. Ricciardo's best time of 1:17.613 was a mere eight hundredth of second up on the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel, with Max Verstappen third in the other Red Bull – the top three separated by less than a tenth of a second.
