Several drivers start the coming season with penalty points
In case of a serious offence or causing an accident, the stewards can decide to hand out a penalty point. This will be added to the driver's licence and when the total of 12 is reached, a suspension will follow. This has never happened in the history of Formula 1 since the system was introduced in 2014, although Lewis Hamilton came close in 2020. What is the state of play now? Reduction after one year The system works in such a way that the penalty points awarded remain in place for one year.
