Lotus 'opened the door' to Alonso – Lopez

– Lotus owner Gérard Lopez has revealed that the team gave Fernando Alonso "a real option" to consider for the 2015 Formula 1 campaign, before the two-time World Champion sealed his return to McLaren.Alonso, having agreed to part company with Ferrari earlier in the year, was finally named alongside Jenson Button at McLaren-Honda last week.But Lopez, who ultimately retained his 2014 line-up of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado, says he would have welcomed Alonso to Lotus."We opened the door to Fernando but it was clear that he had his objectives," Lopez told Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
