F1 2014 Season Review: McLaren, Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen
MCLAREN – EARLY FORM FADES
There was plenty of change at McLaren ahead of the 2014 F1 season, which was the team’s last powered by Mercedes. Ron Dennis returned as Group CEO, while Eric Boullier was appointed racing director and rookie Kevin Magnussen was promoted to partner Jenson Button.
There was also no title sponsor, following the Woking-based outfit’s separation with Vodafone. Encouraging pre-season pace and reliability meant McLaren entered 2014 optimistic of a more positive campaign, following a disastrous previous season. Magnussen enjoyed a hugely impressive debut in Australia, finishing third on the road behind Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo.
