Ferrari and Raikkonen escape further penalty
Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen escape from further penalty for the unsafe release which straight away preceded his withdrawal from the season-opening Australian GP. Raikkonen regained its rhythm in the middle stages but was soon cut short due to problem faced by Kimi Raikkonen at lap 41, just after the iceman’s second pitstop. The rear tire of the Ferrari was not fitted properly and the furious waves of the pit crew were futile as he sped past the pits, causing damage to Raikkonen’s car and eventually forcing him to retire. 'We had an issue and the wheel didn't go fully as it should, so it came loose.' Raikkonen said after the race.
