Difficult 2015 season was necessary – Alonso

Fernando Alonso says McLaren's difficult 2015 F1 season was 'necessary' and remains very positive ahead of next year. The Woking-based outfit's new partnership with Honda has got off to a disappointing start, with power unit problems causing frequent retirements. Speaking in the FIA press conference on Thursday, ahead of the finale in Abu Dhabi, Alonso said his return to McLaren was a step forward in his career and was necessary. 'Well, tough year, obviously difficult and struggling with the pace all year and the reliability,' he said. 'But personally I think it was necessary.
