Pirelli: New regulations opened up Australian GP

Paul Hembery says the new F1 tyre regulations made the Australian Grand Prix a more thrilling spectacle as teams were able to open up different strategies after the red flag stoppage. With Fernando Alonso and Esteban Gutierrez suffering a huge smash on lap 18 the race in Melbourne was temporarily suspended to clear debris. The stoppage enabled teams to radically switch strategies, with race winner Nico Rosberg swapping his red-banded supersofts for the mediums tyres to reach the chequered flag effectively without stopping during the race.
