Decision: 2017 tyre test programme approved

After Pirelli warned F1 that they will quit the sport if the 2017 tyre testing programme was not confirmed by the end of Monday, F1 bosses have approved the programme. With the worry of not having enough time, Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said that they will need a significant time window if they are to perfect the wider rubber that that is set for next year. The F1 commission and Strategy Group were the ones to approve the programme on Monday, which saw the number of Pirelli test days increased from 12 to 25. The approval of the wider rubber means that cars will be able to increase lap times, which will be added to the revamping of F1 cars next year.
