Bitsize news – Automated ‘halo’ protection
The FIA have had many talks around the halo concept but now a new idea has been brought forward…. It seems an alternative option to the halo idea has been offered and it comes in the form of an active protection system, which on paper could be the best option. With an active system, it would mean that automatically or because the driver has decided, a halo-type device (or any kind of head protection) would emerge (activate) from the car and protect the driver from the impact. Meaning the nostalgic open-air design would stay but with the added safety of a halo. However race director Charlie Whiting wasn’t very taken with the idea… ...
