Toro Rosso thought I was crazy – Sainz Jr.
– Carlos Sainz Jr. says Toro Rosso's engineers thought he was "crazy" when he opted to start the Chinese Grand Prix on the Super Soft tyres.Pre-race rain had left the Shanghai circuit damp, with dry patches, and all bar Sainz Jr. elected to start on the Intermediate tyres.Sainz Jr. plummeted to last off the line but moved forward as rivals soon pitted for dry tyres, and survived a spin through Turn 2, clipping the wall as he recovered, to emerge inside the top 10.The Spaniard eventually came home in seventh place, via a battle with compatriot Fernando Alonso, and was pleased his risk paid off."You should have seen the faces on my engineers when I told them I was going...
