FIA confirms 21 races in 2016

The FIA, motorsport's governing body, has confirmed there will be 21 races held in 2016. Following a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, the FIA have formally announced that 'The maximum number of Championship events in a season has been increased to 21 (from 20).' In addition, the World Motor Sport Council have also voted to give a mandate to FIA President Jean Todt and Bernie Ecclestone 'to make recommendations and decisions regarding a number of pressing issues in Formula One such as governance, Power Units and cost reduction.'
